LWML - Lutheran Women's Missionary League

Christ Lutheran Church's LWML is a mission organization of which all Lutheran women are automatically members and all friends and guests are welcome to participate.  We are part of a National organization.

Mission Statement:  The Mission of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League is to assist each woman of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod in affirming her relationship with the Triune God so that she is enabled to use her gifts in ministry to the people of the world.
Organizational Structure:
             National LWML ---> Districts ---> Zones ---> Individual Churches
Scheduled LWML Events:
           *    Homeless Sandwich Program:  Christ Lutheran LWML provides a homeless sandwich program.  We make 360 bologna and cheese sandwiches and donate them to St. Columba Ministries Homeless Day Shelter in Norfolk.
           *    Annual Chili Cook-Off Contest:  Our Annual Chili Cook-Off Contest is held every February, usually on a Saturday evening from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m

LWML held its planning meeting on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009.  Our Devotional Activity was Each Day When God Whispers Your Name by Max Lucado.  We talked about God's Priority, God hearing our prayers, clearing your calendar for Him, listening for God and being immersed in Grace.  We selected the following Mission Projects to start off 2009:

• Our Bake Sale Dates for 2009 are February 1; April 19; September 13 and November 8

• In April, we will "Stock the Kitchen" with supplies.

• Aug. 2nd - 30th will be our School Supply Drive for the organization ForKids, Inc.

• LWML will have a Coupon Book Fundraiser with coupons to local businesses (restaurants, movies, golf, bowling, etc) in Virginia Beach and Norfolk...cost $20.00.  See one of the LWML ladies, if you are interested

• Servant's Heart (Pastor Brooks had alerted us to this program and it was highlighted in our Nov. Church Newsletter),

• Seminary Student Sponsorship donation and Deaconess Student Sponsorship donation. All three will each receive a $200.00 check.

    For our different events, we will have ingatherings that will benefit different groups such as Red Cross, Lutheran World Relief, Tsunami Victims, Seminary Tuition, School Supply Project, Food Locker Items for Lent.
